What is numerology? The study of numerology centers around the qualitative meaning of numbers and their effect on our existence. What we know today about numerology was developed thousands of years ago by ancient civilizations. The Kabbala, or Tree of Life, provides the basis for the modern analysis of numbers.

Numbers play a vital role in our everyday lives, giving meaning and value to everything from weights to distances to time. They represent powerful forces in analysis. In numerology, each number 1 - 9 possesses a unique quality in the place in holds. These qualities can be translated in special meaning for the place they have in our lives.

The father of numerological studies is the great mathematician Pythagoras, who elevated the science of numerology by teaching that the entire cosmos vibrated to numerical frequencies and that our individual lives were a reflection of the whole universe.

The Universal Meaning of Numbers

The number 1 symbolizes the principle of beginning, or initiation. It signifies that a person must learn to stand alone, be assertive, and achieve recognition for his or her talents. Therefore, the 1 is ambitious, an achiever, and fares best when allowed to demonstrate his or her own ideas. It signifies self-sufficiency, invention, willfulness, and dominance. Its energy is masculine, focused, and rational.

The number 2 symbolizes the principle of coming together with another, and indicates the action of partnership. It signifies such qualities as supportiveness, intimacy, and diplomacy. The 2 is very aware of others' needs as well as his or her own, and strives to demonstrate friendliness, understanding, and tact. It is artistic, shy, thorough, and analytical. Its energy is feminine and magnetic.

The natural ability to plan, direct, and maintain at a high level of competence is increased with the double digit because the person is working with inspiration from a higher source. Its energy is goal-oriented and inexhaustibly powerful.

The number 33 symbolizes the principle of self-sacrificing love and commitment. It is very concerned for family traditions and the welfare of large numbers of people and is extremely responsible. The number is often called the Christ number because of its ability to love completely and with condition (and because Christ died at this age). Its energy is explosive if not understood and channeled, and is used best if there is a spiritual profession.

Numerological Concepts

Birthpath Number: Derived from the adding together the numbers in the date of birth, the birthpath number denotes a person's overall character. It is a powerful indicator of the inherent qualities that a person was born to express. It expressses a person's natural characteristics and talents.

Destiny Number: Derived from the numerical value of the sum of the letters in a person's given name, the destiny number indicates a person's path of opportunity. It denotes the hidden plan, the major talents, and the probable weaknesses that a person will encounter in his or her lifetime. This number shows which opportunities will present themselves during a person's life.

Heart's Desire Number: This number, the reduced sum of the total numerical value of the vowels in the birth name, indicates a person's inner motivation. While life may present an individual with opportunities, such as with the destiny number, these do not necessarily represent what it is that a person really wants. This true desire is what the heart's desire number represents.

Personality Number: The consonants of a person's name determine the personality number. This is how a person is seen by others; it describes one's personality as viewed by those with whom a person interacts.

Special Talents: An abundance of a certain letter with a particular value signifies a talent in a given area which the number represents. These indicate areas that person is naturally gifted in and would pursue a career in easily.

Karmic Lessons: An absence or a particular numerical value (letters) in a person's name indicates areas which are lacking, that a person may have to struggle with in his/her life.

Experience and Development Numbers: These use variations of the birthdate to derive the Four Periods of Life in which certain types of life experiences will occur. This divides the life into specific age ranges where the individual will encounter particular types of experiences and/or difficulties.
